1. Are the 1800BeYourBest doctors board certified?
Yes, our surgeons are all board certified in plastic surgery. Some are certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, while others are certified in the subspecialty of plastic surgery of the head and neck by the American Board of Otolaryngology. The words “board certified” denote a surgeon who has passed demanding oral and written exams that reflect the strict standards of these medical specialty boards.
2. Is there a 1800BeYourBest doctor in my area?
With a network of more than 170 board-certified plastic surgeons, it’s likely there’s one close by. A customer service representative at ref800# can help identify the surgeon(s) nearest you.
3. How soon can I consult with a doctor, and how soon after that can I have my surgery?
Depending on the doctor’s schedule, you may meet with him or her within a week of contacting us to set up a consultation. If you decide to proceed with the surgery, you will need time to complete required preoperative tests (like blood work) and to prepare yourself for surgery. Most of our surgeons will be able to book your procedure within 3 to 4 weeks of your consultation.
4. Where will my surgery take place?
That all depends on the procedure you are having, your overall health, your surgeon’s preference, and the facilities available in your area. Cosmetic plastic surgery is usually performed in a doctor’s office, a free-standing surgical center, or a hospital. Extensive procedures, like breast reduction, are performed in a hospital; less invasive procedures, such as an eyelid surgery, can be done in the doctor’s office. If you have health issues, including chronic conditions like diabetes, asthma, high blood pressure or a heart condition, your surgeon may choose a hospital setting as the safest option for your surgery.
5. Can I have more than one procedure at a time?
Yes, it is commonly done. One example is the popular mommy makeover, which includes a tummy tuck, breast augmentation and breast lift. One advantage to combining procedures is that you have just one recovery period. Additionally, the surgeon may give you a package deal on the cost when you combine procedures. Keep in mind, however, that the surgery will run longer and the risks may be greater with multiple simultaneous procedures. Ask your surgeon if you’d be a good candidate when you meet for your consultation.
6. Will my information be kept confidential?
Absolutely! Under federal law, all health care providers, including medical facilities, can only release your medical records with your permission. That’s why you are now required to sign a `form for your doctor to share your information with your health insurer.
7. Are there any age restrictions?
Age restrictions on plastic surgery vary. For example, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration restricts saline breast implants to women 18 years of age and over and silicone breast implants to women 22 and older, except in cases of breast reconstruction. Most surgeons advise that certain cosmetic surgeries, including nose jobs and breast augmentation, not be performed until the patient is at or near physical maturity, or the point at which they’ve stopped growing.
When it comes to financing your plastic surgery through 1800BeYourBest, you must be at least 18 years old to enter into a legal contract with us.
8. Will I be able to breastfeed after getting breast implants?
The answer is a qualified “yes”. Most women are able to breastfeed after breast augmentation surgery, but you should discuss this with your surgeon, especially if you are considering breastfeeding any future children you may have.
Breast implants, which lie either between your natural breast and the muscles of the chest wall or under the muscles, could physically inhibit the production and delivery of mother’s milk. There are several different ways to insert implants, including through incisions in the areola (darker skin surrounding the nipples). This technique increases the risk of disrupting the milk ducts that transport milk from the mammary glands to the nipple during nursing.
9. What are the major differences between a tummy tuck and liposuction to the tummy?
A tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, removes excess fat and loose skin from the abdomen and repairs the underlying abdominal muscles that have been stretched due to pregnancy or weight gain. A mini-tummy tuck, called a dermolipectomy or panniculectomy, removes only the extra fat and skin with no muscle repair. Incisions for abdominoplasty are more extensive than for a mini tuck and run across the lower abdomen from hip to hip.
Abdominal liposuction removes just unwanted deposits of fat under the skin. It’s the procedure of choice if you have diet- and exercise-resistant fat pockets and good skin elasticity. Incisions are very small and usually camouflaged by natural skin folds. Recovery time is less than with a tummy tuck.
10. How much recovery time should I expect, and how soon can I go back to work?
As with all surgery, recovery time depends on the procedure and your own rate of healing. Although you may still have some bruising, you should be able to return to work a week or so after facial plastic surgery and liposuction. A more extensive procedure, like a full body lift, may require 2 weeks or more of recovery time.
Your job’s activity level will also dictate how soon you can return to work. A sedentary job is less demanding that one that keeps you on your feet, moving or lifting, so you can expect to be back on the job sooner.
